Fitler Square

Location

Fitler Square is tucked away along the Schuylkill River in the Southwest Corner of the city. It’s just west of Rittenhouse Square and just south of Logan Square and University City is just across the river. It’s a small neighborhood so it’s very walkable and it’s walking distance to Center City. It’s also accessible by bus routes or you can drive since there’s a lot of street parking.

The Vibe

Named after a former Philadelphia mayor, Fitler Square is now a community-oriented neighborhood of well-maintained historical homes with a quaint park at its center. It’s a quiet, mostly residential neighborhood and is one of Philadelphia's most expensive neighborhoods. It’s very family friendly and is home to some of Philadelphia's most prestigious private schools.

There’s old world charm with streetscapes consisting of brownstones and classic Philadelphia row homes along tree-lined streets. This prestigious neighborhood may not have the hustle and bustle that most other Philly neighborhoods have but the residents wouldn't have it any other way.

Although located just west of Center City, this pocket of Philly doesn't receive the heavy traffic that other sections of downtown receive. That’s likely because there’s only a few restaurants and bars in the area and they’re smaller cafes and bistros.

One of the best parts of this neighborhood are the green spaces. It’s is the perfect place to take a stroll, walk your dog or just kind of get away from it all without really having to go far.  I personally love to take walks here and wander through the beautiful streets. It's so peaceful. Tranquil, serene and stately are the best words to describe the vibes here.

Things to Do

This isn’t an area where you’ll find tourist attractions but there is an abundance of outdoor spaces.

  • Fitler Square:

    • In the center of the neighborhood at panama and 23rd street

    • This is the gathering spot for every day life here but also several events throughout the year including a Halloween Party, Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas tree lighting, and a farmer’s market every Saturday morning.

    • It’s also filled with large animal sculptures that are always popular with kids.

  • Schuylkill River Park

    • This park has it all - soccer fields, tennis and basketball courts, baseball field, a pool, rec center, one of the best dog parks in the city, a fountain and of course a large grassy area to hangout.

  • Schulkyll River Trail

    • You can access this beautiful trail in this neighborhood and it’s a great place to walk, run or ride a bike with beautiful views of the city and river.

Real Estate

Fitler Square has some of the most beautiful homes in the city. You’ll find enchanting narrow side streets with historic 19th and 20th century homes. There’s iconic streets like Panama street that are so picturesque and beautiful it’s hard to wrap your head around. Then there’s larger brownstones and condo conversions on streets like Spruce and Pine. Every street you turn on has another collection of stunning homes.

There’s also a few new condo buildings like one riverside, a beautiful building along the river. Locust Point is also a popular condo building in this neighborhood.

As of October 2023, the average sales price in Fitler Square is $646,000 with 52 days on the market.
