This morning, we highlighted Wawa’s “Hoagie Day” event at Independence Visitor’s Center in Old City. We continue our coverage of “Welcome America,” Philadelphia’s week of July 4th festivities, with tonight at Penn’s Landing. Starting at 8 pm head to the “Great Plaza” Riverside Stage, and enjoy an evening of free music from the Philadelphia Orchestra. Associate conductor “Cristian Măcelaru” is set to lead this year’s rendition of the annual event. The Philadelphia Orchestra recently returned home from their 40th anniversary tour, and China residency.
Fun fact – Philly’s own became YouTube sensations after an impromptu flight delay performance [in Beijing] went viral.
As if the free performance wouldn’t suffice, viewers will be treated to a waterfront sunset during tonight’s show, along with the first of many fireworks displays this week in Philly. For those who cannot attend, the fireworks display will also be visible from popular watering hole “Morgan’s Pier,” and other locations along Columbus Boulevard. For further information, head over to the Philadelphia Orchestra’s website – philorch.org – event staff recommend arriving early.
Enjoy this evening’s festivities fellow Philadelphian’s! We will continue coverage tomorrow & Thursday featuring The Roots‘ own Quest Love alongside D’Angelo as “Brothers in Arms” [tomorrow], and the big 4th of July Jam on the parkway [Thursday].
