New Septa Fares Effective Today

Photo via Philly.com

For the first time in three years, SEPTA (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority), issues fare increases effective today [Monday July 1, 2013]. Changes include:

  • Token costs: $1.55 to $1.80
  • Transit line cash fares: $2.00 to $2.25
  • Regional rail lines experience varying fare increases from $0.25 to $2.00
  • Eliminates Zone 5 Fares

Further fare increases will arrive in 2014, as result of SEPTA’s NPT [New Payment Technology plan], which looks to eliminate tokens in favor of credit & debit options for customers. Upon implementation, cash fares will jump to $2.50, to encourage use of NPT. For further information on all fare increases read John Moritz’s original philly.com article, or visit septa.org.
