A grant towards a new home is being sponsored by our own Josalyn Aponte. Read on to learn about Josalyn’s inspiring journey with the U.S. Army.
At the age of 23, with a degree in Respiratory Care and working as a Lead Respiratory Therapist at a big company, people considered Josalyn “successful”. But Josalyn didn’t feel complete, she still felt as though something was missing in her life – and then one day she met 1st Sgt. Mickens, top recruiter of Philadelphia, and it all of the sudden became clear to her. Josalyn had always looked at military personnel with much respect, but never did she think she could actually be one. Sgt. Mickens changed all of that for her.
Josalyn went away for 6 months of training, and she truly learned a lot. She learned to be brave, she learned to be strong, she learned to be patient, she learned to be disciplined, but most importantly she learned that she had already had these qualities and more all along, and her life has never been the same.
When Josalyn returned home she had a different perspective on life, and had realized how fortunate she really was. And now, Josalyn lives a happy life of discipline, strength, and bravery, and it’s all thanks to the Army. Now Josalyn would like the opportunity to give back to what means so much to her. And this is only the beginning…
