There has been an issue for years about condo owners who have to pay private trash collectors. Philadelphia’s trash collectors aren’t capable of picking up all the trash produced at a lot of high rise buildings in one pickup.
Yesterday the Pennsylvania Supreme Court approved a rebate that mandates trash pickups for all condo units. This bill will give a $200 per year per unit tax credit to those residents who pay for separate trash pick up fees.
Society Hill Towers resident Marsha Bacal says she’s been fighting 10 years to end the inequity between condo owners and other homeowners in Philadelphia.
“The concept of homeowner seems to be a problem here, because we are vertical we considered second class,” said Bacal. “We are not homeowners in the same light as those who live on a horizontal basis.” –newsworks.org
If this is implemented, Philadelphia would lose upwards of $6 million a year for giving out these credits.
