What were you doing before you got into real estate?
AA: I started my career in 1989 when I was just 23 years old. I started my first business in Chicago, utilizing my knowledge of the fashion industry that I learned growing up in Istanbul. I began importing and selling European clothing from warehouses overseas and found much success. This venture helped me create my own brand and course a successful future.
What made you get into Real Estate?
AA: In 1995 I was accepted into The Wharton School of Business. My own frustrations in trying to find an apartment made me see the potential in showing rentals to fund my education. My history with sales along with being able to connect quickly with people, lead me to creating a company called Luxury Leasing. I started becoming very successful, renting 5 apartments a weekend to working college students. I got to taste the potential of working in real-estate and felt like I was just scratching the surface. I saw a demand that no one else was meeting and made my own impact. This gave me the confidence and drive to pursue real-estate fully.
What’s your favorite restaurant?
AA: Right now my favorite restaurant is Morimoto – on 7th & Chestnut St. It’s a truly authentic Japanese experience. The fish comes right from Japan and Chef Morimoto is the real-deal.
Where’s the coolest place you’ve ever traveled?
AA: Australia, for multiple reasons. One, the people are super nice – a really kind society. Two, the country is beautiful and unique. It feels like another planet. And three, the seafood is just amazing. One of my favorite experiences was going to the Sydney Fish Market. It blew me away. There were hundreds of different fish I had never even heard of and they grill it fresh right there. Sydney is a gorgeous city. It’s an architectural blend of the best parts of Europe and America.
What’s the best part about Philly that most people overlook?
AA: How great a location it is. We have great weather and four beautiful seasons. Our location also allows for some incredible travel opportunities, where you can travel to many major cities in under a couple hours. I can get on a train and be in the middle of Manhattan in just a short trip later.
