University City, home to The University of Pennsylvania, Wharton Business School and Drexel University is one of Philadelphia’s most diverse and vibrant neighborhoods. It is known as Philadelphia’s 1st suburb. Located west of the Center City district separated by the Schuylkill River, the neighborhood is the hub of medicine, science, education, technology and research. The unified and dynamic neighborhood gets its unique spirit from the mixture of college students, faculty, artists, and families. The area is full of old houses being bought up by young professionals and professors who would rather stay close to their jobs. The area is one of the most ethnically diverse in the Philly region, with restaurants ranging from Middle Eastern to Indian to Soul Food. As well, the school year brings hordes of students from all parts of the country to this small locale.
University City boundaries are, on the east, 29th Street and the Schuylkill River; on the west, 50th Street; on the north, Spring Garden Street (to 40th Street), Powelton Avenue (to 44th Street), and Market Street; and on the south, Civic Center Boulevard, University Avenue and Woodland Avenue.

Student Housing Hi-rise Coming to Chestnut Street
It has recently became finalized from Brandywine Realty Trust, that they are on the verge of building a 33 story tower at Cira Center South that will sleep more than 850 students from both University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University. This gorgeous high-rise, dubbed the Grove, is set to cost around $158.5 million dollars with location at 2930 Chestnut St. They hope this will draw students closer to the campuses and away from West Philadelphia and Center City housing. The plan is set to have its very own health club, swimming pool, and rents staring out around $1,300/month for a single room (offering suites up to 3 bedrooms). This is great news for both the City of Philadelphia and the many students looking for more options for affordable housing in the area.

The Best Dog Parks in Philadelphia
Philadelphia home owners really love their four-legged canine friends. And nothing makes a dog’s day then a fun-filled romp in a dog park. If you want to get tails wagging, spend the day at one of the city’s best dog parks.
Seger Park – Located on the border of South Philadelphia and Center City along South 11th Street, Seger Dog Park is a well-maintained pooch park that has easily accessible rules and is close to lovely Philadelphia neighborhoods. Maintained by the Seger Dog Park Owners Association, this fenced-in park has double gated entrances and has plenty of lighting, ensuring a well-lit environment for evening playtime. During the dog days of summer, Rover will love basking near the water fountain.
Mario Lanzo Park- Small, but well shaded park in the heart of Queen Village on the 200 block of Queen. Look for our dog-loving Atacan Group Team member there, David Darami. He will be the one with a Boxer talking about real estate.
Passyunk Square Dog Park – This South Philadelphia dog park, located at 1200 Wharton Street, is like a playground for dogs. Featuring plenty of stumps and logs for your dog to jump or hide under, this fenced-in park is conveniently located close to Columbus Square.
Clark Park – This generous park located in West Philadelphia isn’t just a favorite sledding spot for locals, it’s also a great place to take your dog. Spanning more than 9.1 acres along Baltimore Avenue and 43rd Street, Clark Park has plenty of tress, bushes and statues for your dog to sniff, see, and explore. The flat section, aptly called the “Dog Bowl,” located in the center of the park is a great place to play fetch.
Pops Playground Dog Park – For Fishtown dog owners, a great dog park to visit is Pop’s Dog Space, located at Hazard and Collins Streets. The park has a shady space where dogs will get plenty of play and exercise time. Pop’s is a private member’s only park instead of a public place, so be sure to apply for a membership by clicking here.
Wissahickon Valley Park and Beach – Nothing is better than a dip in the Wissahickon Creek during a hot summer day. Located along Kitchen Lane in Wissahickon Park, this beached area features a wooded hiking path as well. Dogs must be kept on six-foot leashes.

Three Prettiest Blocks in West Philadelphia
West Philadelphia is home to some of the most breath-taking Philadelphia Real Estate. It’s packed full of history, gorgeous Queen Anne styled houses, delicious restaurants, big front porches, and quiet, tree-lined streets. West Philly is one of the city’s most distinct neighborhoods because of its suburban feel and quick access to Center City.
5200 Block of Osage – One of the best features of West Philadelphia are the house’s large, front porches. The 5200 block of Osage boasts the same kind of lovely architecture, but with a stunning view of Malcolm X Park. The brick-laden sidewalks, stunning bay windows and adornments on the houses, and kind neighbors make a welcoming block to live on. Plus, with one of the largest parks in West Philadelphia being across the street, what more do you need?
4700 Block of Chester – Situated in the West Philadelphia neighborhood known as Squirrel Hill, this block is full of families, college students and young professionals and features multiple housing options, including Philadelphia apartment buildings and townhouses. Residents keep a watchful eye over the block and make sure it’s free of garbage. Plus, one of the best Philly bars, Dock Street, is only a couple short blocks from this location.
4300 Block of Woodland Avenue – West Philadelphia sure loves its parks, and this block, bordering Clark Park, is no exception. The 4300 block of Woodland Avenue features historic Philadelphia homes with Queen Ann style detailing, including columned porches and decorative spindle work. There’s also plenty of dining options around this area, including Millcreek Tavern.
West Philadelphia is full of little gems that are worth checking out. If you want to find a great Philadelphia house to live in, be sure to consider West Philadelphia Real Estate.

Four Hidden Gems of Philadelphia
The Liberty Bell, Rocky, cheese-steaks – Philadelphia is world famous for a lot of things. But if you get off the beaten tourist trail and discover some of the lesser known hidden gems, Philly is full of them.
1.) Bartram’s Garden – Located at the intersection of 54th and Lindbergh Boulevard in West Philadelphia, this gorgeous and historical garden is considered the progenitor of American horticulture. Established in 1731 by John and William Bartram, this estate is situated on 44 acres of immaculate gardens and features a view of the city skyline.
2.) Mural Tours – Did you know that Philadelphia had the largest collection of public morals in the world? If you want to discover the nearly 3,000 murals that the city has to offer, there are multiple walking and bus tours that can cater to your artistic hankerings. Most of the murals were done since 1989, when the city’s Mural Arts Program was established as an effort to dissuade graffiti. Trolley tours run Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays and the daily walking tour starts at 11:30am. Visit Mural Arts for more info.
3.) Tin Angel – If you want to check out live music but avoid the crowds that the Electric Factory or Trocadero draws, head over to Olde City’s Tin Angel. Located at 20 South 2nd Street, this venue feels more like a quaint coffee shop than anything else.
4.) Painted Bride Art Center – Located at 230 Vine Street in Center City, this building is a feast for the eyes. Featuring the intricate glass art of local artist Isaiah Zagar, the venue also hosts the city’s longest continually running Jazz series.
