Society Hill (Front St-7th, Walnut St-South St) is an affluent, virtually commercial free neighborhood inhabited by wealthy families who enjoy the peace and quiet. Restored Colonial, Federal and Georgian Townhomes provide genteel living on tree-lined, cobblestone blocks in what Forbes called one of the most exclusive enclaves in America. It contains the largest concentration of original 18th and early 19th-century architecture of any place in the United States. Much like Beacon Hill in Boston, Society Hill is noted as a charming district with cobblestone streets bordered by brick rowhouses in Federal and Georgian style. he district is named after the 18th century Free Society of Traders, which had its offices at Front Street on the hill above Dock Creek. Located close to both the Delaware River and Philadelphia's civic buildings, including the Independence Hall, the neighborhood soon became one of the city's most populous areas. Historic buildings in Society Hill include the Society Hill Synagogue, built in 1829 as a Baptist church by Philadelphia architect Thomas U. Walter, one of the architects of the United States Capitol in Washington, DC. Residents are zoned to the General George A. McCall School for grades Kindergarten through 8 and Furness High School for high school. Also located in Society Hill is the Saint Peter's School, considered to be the most exclusive private elementary school in Philadelphia. It was formed in 1834 and was originally part of St. Peter's Church, erected in 1761. Saint Peter's offers classes from Pre-School through eighth grade.

Beginning at 10am at the top of each hour, Macy’s will boast a gorgeous display of over 100,000 LED lights, as well as music from the historic Wanamaker Organ. Taking place at 1300 Market Street in Center City, you’ll get a smile on your face as you hear the voice of Julie Andrews do the narration.
Open 7 days a week – November 23 – March 3
Located at Columbus Avenue and Market Street, this lovely ice-skating rink features beautiful nautical views of the Delaware at an affordable price. Get in the holiday spirit and work off those extra calories from Thanksgiving as you skate around.
East Fairmount Park Mansions
December 8-9
Located in the Fairmount and the Art Museum districts, these historic mansions, including Laurel Hill, Lemon Hill, Mount Pleasant, Strawberry Mansion, Sweetbriar and Woodford Mansion, will be open for tour. Get an eyeful of living in the lap of luxury.
November 27 – December 24
Visit this fantastic park at 6th and Race Streets in the Rittenhouse Square section of the city. You can sit on Santa’s lap, enjoy mini-golf and a carousel and also participate in holday-themed crafts to deck your own halls.

That’s why we were beside ourselves with excitement and we learned one of our favorite pop-up vintage shops, Moon & Arrow, celebrated the grand re-opening of its permanent South Philadelphia neighborhood retail location on Fabric Row in Queen Village.
Founded by local jewelry designer Chelsea Pearce in 2010, the charming boutique features gorgeous, hand-crafted pieces for men and women. Pearce’s customized jewelry mixes reclaimed metals and rough-cut gemstones for a classic look with a modern twist.
Besides awesome jewelry, Moon & Arrow carries vibrant home décor such as hanging air plant sculptures, terrariums grown in recycled fish tanks and colorful houseware.

Il Pittore – Located at 2025 Sansom in Center City, this intimate Italian restaurant offers modern and inventive dishes and allows guests to choose several courses of small portions. Sbraga – Hailed by Esquire magazine as one of the best new restaurants of 2012, Sbraga, located on the Avenue of the Arts at 440 South Broad, is the brainchild of Top Chef season seven winner Kevin Sbraga. Offering a clean, modern and industrial atmosphere, Sbraga dishes out affordable fine dining. Check out their four-course tasting menu.
Talula’s Garden – Voted the best of prime-new restaurants in America, this Stephen Starr newbie features a magical garden filled with bird songs. The red-hued interior is both romantic and welcoming. Enjoy yummy cheeses and scrumptious brunch options. The only restaurant on Society Hill’s Washington Square.
Barbuzzo – This restaurant was named as one of the top new restaurants in Urbab America by Frommer’s Guide 2012. Located in Washington Square (Midtown Village, Gayborhood) at 110 South 13th Street in Center City, Barbuzzo serves swine popcorn, smoked pork and many unusual and sinfully delicious desserts.

Christmas Lights in Philadelphia 2012
Christmas time is an absolutely amazing time to be in Philadelphia. Walking through the snow cover cobblestone blocks of Society Hill or Rittenhouse Square where the stately townhouses are decorated for the season feels straight out of a movie. It is also a great time of year to buy Philadelphia real estate because people are generally in such a cheerful mood!
1. Christmas Light Show at Macy’s Center City

An annual Philadelphia tradition not to be missed, the Christmas Light Show at Macy’s Center City continues to entertain new generations of visitors. Using over 100,000 LED lights and the sounds of the legendary Wanamaker organ, the Grand Court atrium becomes adorned with floating snowflakes, flying reindeer and many other familiar holiday images. In addition, Santa’s Village with the tale of Tiny tim’s Christmas is spectacular
2. Comcast Holiday Spectacular

A holiday spectacle unlike any other returns for its 4th year. Shown on the state-of-the-art Comcast Experience Video Wall at The Comcast Center, the 15-minute Holiday Spectacular is filled with sights and sounds of the season. Shows run every hour on the hour from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
3. The Holidays at Franklin Square

All December in Franklin Square will be lit with thousands of festive holiday lights! Beginning December 1st with the Holiday Lighting Ceremony through New Year’s Eve, the park will be aglow, setting the perfect mood for the season.

Rittenhouse Square transforms into a holiday wonderland with the flip of a switch, as the park and Philadelphia’s largest Christmas tree (over 30 feet tall!) become illuminated with 5,000 brilliant, multi-colored globes and lights. Before enjoying the beautiful glow of the park, sneak in some holiday shopping at the shops and boutiques of Rittenhouse Row and enjoy a warm, delicious meal or a much-deserved drink at one of the many restaurants and bars in the area. Keller Williams Center City is a huge supporter of the tree lighting.
5. Christmas in Peddler’s Village
Light up your holiday season with a fantastic display of nearly one million holiday lights in the picturesque Peddler’s Village in Bucks County. While your in a festive mood, explore more than 70 specialty shops and 8 restaurants.
6. Longwood Gardens Christmas
